Counseling Services
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

We offer confidential one-to-one counseling services by skilled clinical social workers and mental health counselors. Treatments are tailored to client needs and goals. Sessions are typically 55-minutes and are offered in-office, in-nature, virtually, or in hybrid formats based on client preference. We accept self paying clients, select insurance plans, and offer 20-min free phone consultations to help answer your questions and help you find a good counseling fit.
GROUP COUNSELING

We facilitate support groups, skills groups, and psycho-education groups throughout the year that reflect a range of topics and needs we see in our community. Groups are typically 60-90 minutes and help participants to feel seen, heard, and understood by others with similar experiences. Groups are offered in-office, in-nature, virtually, or in hybrid formats. Groups can be paid for out-of-pocket or by using select insurance plans.
INTENSIVE TRAUMA TREATMENT

Outdoor Therapeutics offers intensive trauma treatment options (typically several hours over two days) using body-based interventions such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing Therapy. Treatments are designed to optimize and accelerate the trauma treatment process. Clients are screened and consulted with by trained clinicians to determine appropriateness of fit for this intervention.
PRO BONO THERAPY AND SLIDING SCALE SERVICES

Outdoor Therapeutics sees a limited number of pro bono clients to support community members in financial need. Low-cost services are offered at 30% of our standard counseling rate through the Grass Roots Affordable Clinic and Education (GRACE) Initiative. Clients enrolled in the GRACE Initiative agree to receive services from up-and-coming graduate interns who are supervised by seasoned counselors at our practice.
RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING

This type of counseling is appropriate for people in partnerships with communication challenges, conflicting points of view, or disagreements about how to solve relationship problems. Sometimes the goal is to make the relationship stronger, sometimes the goal is to move forward separately. Regardless of the intention to seek counseling, our therapists commit to helping people be seen, heard, and to feel good about the decisions they are making.
HORTICULTURAL THERAPY

Garden-based therapy is some of the oldest and most universally used forms of human healing. This treatment model uses garden design, plant care, and harvesting as an anchor for working through mental and physical health challenges. Horticultural therapy offers a number of health benefits including reduced stress, emotional regulation, gentle movement, social skill building, and opportunities for nature to serve as a mirror and a metaphor for processing personal challenges.
EQUINE FACILITATED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Equine-Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) is an evidence-based treatment model in which a trained clinician, an Equine Specialist (ES) and horse(s) collaborate to create a supportive environment for clients to process emotional and behavioral problems. We currently offer this form of therapy to clients age 5 and up.
Insurance & Fees
Outdoor Therapeutics accepts self-paying clients and clients insured by Carefirst/BCBS and Cigna insurance plans. Health insurance plans offered through medical assistance programs (Medicaid/Medicare) are not accepted. Payment is due at the time of service in the form of check or credit card.
